Black history month

This month is both Black History month and the month of the Rosary. The official Black History Month web site: http://www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk/ hosts a variety of commentaries for various politicians as well as highlighting some of the festivals and events taking place across the capital this month. Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks are this year’s Black History Month hero’s. The site includes videos of the release of Nelson Mandela together with clips from of Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech. In the words of David Cameron “As we celebrate Black History Month we not only look back with enormous gratitude to the African-Caribbean community for their immense contribution to Britain, we can also look forward with great confidence about the future of our country”.

Prayer for the week

I dream a world where no man or woman will scorn,
where love will bless the earth and peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all will know sweet freedom’s why,
where greed no longer saps the soul nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white, whatever race you be,
will share the bounties of the earth and every man is free.
Where wretchedness will hang its head and joy,
like a pearl, attends the needs of all mankind- of such I dream, my world!

Amen.
