This week the assembly theme is “almsgiving”.  Almsgiving is closely tied into fasting.  Whatever we give up, the money we save should go to the needy. Generosity is a key part of our Christian journey, having a direct impact on our relationship with God and neighbour

As a school we are collecting money for the Catholic Children’s Society Crisis appeal –  a fund that supports families that have emergency needs.  Every family at St James’ has been given a tube or box. I will leave a few extra boxes in the staff room so please help yourself. They will be handed into Finance during the last week of term.

This week could also be an opportunity to look at different ways to fundraise above and beyond our almsgiving.  Comic relief provides some amazing inspirational stories from Eddie Izzard running 43 marathons in 51 days to David Walliams swimming the length of the Thames.

Lord, teach me to be generous:  to serve you as you deserve;  to give and not to count the cost;  to fight and not to heed the wounds;  to toil and not to seek to rest;  to labour and to ask for no reward save that of knowing I do your will.

Amen.   (St Ignatius)
