Theme for the week: ASPIRE

Posted: September 13, 2015 in St James

This week’s theme links in with the Year 7 Aspire Project.  Students are looking at the attributed needed to be successful together with learning about one inspiring individual in each subject area.

One major sporting event kicks off this Friday which again offers us many resources and characters that embody character, determination and the attributes of succeed.  A member of staff forwarded me on this brilliant Guinness video followed the story of Shane Williams.  A perfect example to both inspire and have a “don’t give up mentality”.

During the Aspire project the learning to learn icons are also introduced.  One of the main difference between our ASPIRE characters and others in their filed is that they possess a growth mindset. The don’t give up, teamwork, ways of learning, challenge, effort and thinking about learning icons could again be used this week during act of worship time.  I am working on prayers that could go with each one.  Below are a few ready to roll:

Rugby Prayer

Almighty God, grant us determination as we ruck, maul and scrummage our way through life, & teach us the value of supporting one another. Enable us to have courage to stand our ground, & be firm to tackle any problems faced. Give us vision to exploit the opportunities which open up, and the wisdom not to be offside too often. When our goal is in sight, may our aim be straight and true. Most of all, we ask you to help us to try, and bring us to the conversion of our lives, in union with Jesus Christ.

Don’t give up:

God give me faith in myself.  Not only on the days when I am going strong and winning, and nothing seems impossible, but on days when I wonder if I am brave enough, smart enough or strong enough.

Don’t let me quit, no matter how many people discourage me, doubt me, laugh at me, warn me, think me a fool and don’t let me listen.  Let me hear another voice telling me, “You can do it, and you will!”.

May I always remember that You are the source of my abilities and my faith, and may I know that rooted in you noting is impossible.  We ask this in Jesus name, Amen

Prayer encouraging teamwork:

Lord, as the body of Christ we are one body with many parts. AS we work together

  • We pray for unity and oneness of mind in making our united effort work out successfully.
  • We pray that we put aside personalities and that our uniqueness as individuals do not clash.
  • We pray that we respect all ideas and efforts and that our pride does not exalt itself over another.
  • We pray that we equally can share in the glory of the outcome of our effort.
  • We pray that we all recognize You as head of the body.
  • We pray that our results might be as rewarding as our hopes are.
  • We pray that each and every member of our school might realize one another contribution for the whole.

Bless our effort, Lord. Make us shining examples of the value of working together for good, for the glory of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
